Clairerose Corbett
Qualified Bowen Therapist

My Bowen journey began back in 2006 in Forster and everyday since I have used the Bowen Technique on my family and friends.

I went on to study and work in an aged care facility, I had always had a great desire to look after the health and  wellbeing of those around me and looking after those who could no longer look after themselves. I knew that there was another way to be able to help them deal with their pain and emotional wellbeing in a natural way. After working in the aged care facility I realised that it wasn't quite right for me.

When I became a mother myself, I became even more aware of the great benefits of holistic therapies. While growing up myself, my mother had studied Homeopathy and Barch flower remedies which introduced me to the natural way's of healing.

I found that natural therapy's like Bowen were more focused on the underlying causes and not just the symptoms 'band aid effect' like modern medicine's. Bowen therapy like other holistic therapies are great to treat and maintain our bodies.

I found that Bowen Therapy is able to cover the  emotional, mental, physical and spiritual aspects of our lives and help us be able cope through the traumatic and unexpected   things that happen and that became something that was very important to me.

After  losing my mum suddenly I knew that I needed to go back and take a refresher course in the Bowen Technique. After the first couple of Bowen modules, I knew that I was on the right track.

I was able to experience the amazing benefits of Bowen therapy for my self after experiencing a miscarriage and after receiving a treatment my body was able to  start the journey to be able to  heal its self.

Mind Body Bowen has also become a staple within my Bowen sessions, the body's ability to 'shut off' certain parts with pain, numbness, tingling etc and how repressed memories are often associated with these conditions was very interesting to me, it's an incredible moment when the body unlocks the memory's and just 'lets'  go all of that tension.

As some times, things don't or can't be talked about and that is where Mind Body Bowen is a gentle way to help the body and mind work their way back through the experience, in a gentle and non-confronting way in a enfolding safe space.

Whether its stress, illness, trauma or the need to relax. The benefits of Bowen can be life changing.

I would be humbled and honoured to take this journey with you.

Tom Bowen

Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982) was the originator of what is now known as "Bowen Therapy". Tom was born in Brunswick, Victoria and was the third child and only son of William and Norah Bowen, who moved to Australia from Wolverhampton in the U.K.

Tom was fascinated by the different postures people had, and how this related to their symptoms of ill-health or muscle pain, etc.  His fascination with bodywork was born out of a desire to help people who were suffering.

After serving in World War II, Tom became interested in new ways of alleviating human suffering. He noticed that when he made certain moves on a body, it had a particular effect.  He developed and refined the effectiveness of his observations and drew remarkably accurate conclusions as to the root of the cause of people’s pain. The results achieved seem to be miraculous, children learning to walk again after being crippled and in braces, lifelong health issues resolved and many a client saved from the surgeon’s knife.

His work in his popular clinic in Geelong, Victoria, was verified by the 1975 Victorian Government Inquiry into alternative health care professions.

It was only in 1986 that the technique was brought to other countries. Oswald Rentsch – a former massage therapist who Tom had invited to work and study with him - was authorized by Bowen to document and teach his methods. And with the help of Bowen’s Clerk, Rene Horwood, and Oswald's wife Elaine, they together produced a record of the Bowen Technique which is now taught and recognised world-wide.
